Dental Health

Orem dentist, Dr. Swenson knows that dental health is much more than just brushing and flossing to avoid cavities. Research has proven a definite link between periodontal disease and a myriad of other forms of disease and health concerns such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s. For several years there it has been known in the medical community that periodontal disease in pregnant women can cause premature births, and low birth weight babies. In the last year we have witnessed the first documented case of a mother’s periodontal disease contributing to the cause of her baby being stillborn. It is believed that bleeding associated with gingivitis allowed bacteria normally contained to the mouth because of the body’s defense system, to enter the blood and work its way to the placenta.

As your Orem dentist, our focus here at CrossPointe Dental is to assess your overall oral and dental health, and provide you with the best options for correcting any problems that may exist and maintaining a healthy mouth throughout your lifetime.
